Ginger Cookies


Cream together:

1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar

Stir in

1 egg
1 cup molasses
2 tablespoons vinegar

Beat well.

Mix dry ingredients and stir into mixture
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
5 cups flour

Chill 3 hours. Roll to 1/8 inch and cut out shapes with cookie cutters.

Bake 375 degrees for 6-7 minutes. Cool on racks. Makes about 8 dozen.

(OK to freeze dough in logs. When ready to use, cut into 1/8 or 1/4 inch slices and bake.) Baked cookies freeze well.
